Drone tech training soon for Tripura rural women to boost agri sector, says CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said his government was focusing on imparting training to rural women of the state in operating drones.

While inaugurating the state’s first National Skill Training Institute (Women) along with Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan in virtual mode, CM Saha mentioned that such a training would help them use the technology for spraying fertilisers in fields.

The CM said his government has decided to introduce stone technology in the agriculture and agri-management sector and has decided to encourage the participation of rural women in the sector.

The institute built in 4.12 acres in Anandnagar, Agartala, aims to provide vocational training to women trainees to enable them for high-demand works of business for wage employment and self-employment.

Apart from drone technology, the government also has plans to introduce courses such as Cosmetology, Dress making, Secretarial practice in English language under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS).

The state government had earlier started vocational training programmes such as Catering and Hospitality, Computer Software Application, and Office Management under the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) since last financial year.

The NSTI currently has 102 students enrolled and has plans to admit 200 more in order to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals.

CM Saha stressed on his government’s commitment to skill development and women empowerment and said the Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Women, 2022 as a strategic framework for gender equality and economic empowerment of women.
