Palestine ambassador and Gaza varsity VC invited to Palestinian solidarity convention in Kerala
Ambassador of Palestine to India Adnan Abu Alhaija and Islamic University of Gaza Vice Chancellor Dr Kamlain Shaa’ath are among the invitees for a Palestine solidarity convention to be held in Malappuram Friday under the aegis of the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Jamaat-e-Islami state committee member Dr Nahas Mala said the Palestinian ambassador will address the convention virtually.
“He had assured the participation in the event. Gaza University VC had committed to take part in the solidarity event online, but considering the present flare-up of the situation, he is unlikely to take part in the function,” said Mala.
Amid escalating tension between Israel and Palestine, various Muslim organisations in Kerala have announced events to mark solidarity with those fighting in Gaza.
On Tuesday, the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, organised a “Hamas square” in Malappuram shouting slogans for fighting for Palestine.
Jamaat-e-Islami, which will also conduct solidarity events across Kerala, has called for offering special prayers on Friday to express solidarity in support of Palestine and against Zionism.
The SIO has also organised rallies in many parts of Kerala to pledge support for Hamas. In Malappuram, it formed a “Hamas square” where slogans in support of Palestine were shouted.
Youth League, the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League, will organise an “anti-war ring” in Kozhikode on Saturday to extend support for Palestine.
On Saturday, Hamas militants stormed through a border fence and killed hundreds of Israelis in their homes, on the streets, and at an outdoor music festival. As the conflict has escalated, at least 2,300 people have lost their lives on both sides.
